I recently lost a childhood friend to leukemia and by sharing her journey on social media, she gave me a glimpse into her battle.
I'll be the first one to admit - I am blessed. I have my health, my family and my career.
Not everyone is so fortunate.
I believe it is my responsibility, and that of anyone else in a similar situation, to find ways to give back.
In that spirit, I'm excited to be participating in a cross-Canada philanthropic competition in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This amazing charitable organization funds blood cancer research and patient support services that I know helped my friend and her family and will help thousands of families in the months and years ahead.
The fundraising competition pits me against 7 amazing women all working to raise the most money from Atlantic Canada for blood cancer research.
The winner earns the title "Women of the Year" - to be honest, I don't want to be Women of the year. Those suffering and their loved ones are the true men and women of the year, but, I would like to raise a lot of money and awareness for this important cause.
While I do have some tough competition - I have an ace up my Nova Scotian sleeve: an amazing group of kind, warm-hearted friends, colleagues and clients who I know will help me meet my goal. So if you can, please consider supporting me over the next 10 weeks. And I hope to see you soon at one of my fundraising events!
Can you help me end blood cancer?
Some other things our volunteer team is working on...
- Online 50/50 draw
- A wine tasting and auction
- Some of my co-workers will be helping spread awareness of my campaign through a chicken McNugget-eating contest (yes, you read that right).
- My biggest event will be a fun-filled casino night where attendees can play the night away while supporting a great cause.
